At the Spring

The Minnesota Herb Society interpreted “At the Spring” by Nicholas Richard Brewer, an artist from Olmstead County, Minnesota. It is located in Gallery 302, in the Folk Art section.

Art in Bloom, is the annual floral event at the Minneapolis Institute of Art is April 25th – 29th.

The I.H.A. Herb of the Year is hops, with that in mind this painting was chosen because of Minnesota’s long history of beer brewing and the artist’s Minnesota ties. Lavender, bay laurel, chamomile, rosemary, and scented geranium are some of the herbs used. Ranunculus, aster, wax flower, freesia, agapanthus, soldago, and cherry branches help fill the rest of the piece.
